Q&A With Anewall
There are so many options and sources for nursery inspiration available these days [Pinterest, Instagram, and more] – where should we begin when creating a mood board, or choosing a vibe or a theme for our nursery?
Best advice we can give is don’t overwhelm yourself! There’s no need to go looking for inspiration on every social media platform or blog on the internet. If you’re an Instagram user, stay on Instagram. If you’re a Pinterest user, stay on Pinterest. Look for similarities in rooms and designs that you’ve saved or liked. If you find yourself drawn to a certain type of style we would start there.
Trends come and go. [Bunnies, Bears, BoHo, etc.] Any tips or tricks for choosing a nursery theme or colour palate that can grow with baby?
Great question! There are a few different ways to go about this, but we recommend just stay true to you and your design style.
For wallpaper, choose what you’re drawn to as an adult. Perhaps choosing an illustrated animal design over a cartoon animal for example. That way the design can transfer over into a school-aged child’s room as well.
If you are a minimalist, choose something simple, abstract or neutral. This will still make a huge impact in the space without being bright and colourful, or too busy. Again, this will easily grow with baby.
You can also choose to design your nursery based on the rest of your home décor and tie it all together!
What is the key to creating a space that also has some maturity to it for the parents who spend a lot of time in that room.
Love this – we spend so much time in our nurseries at home! Our favourite way to keep a nursery “mature” is investing in a really beautiful glider or rocker for yourself. We spend so much time in ours, reading, nursing, rocking etc. Secondly, book and toy management is key for creating a space of calm and clarity. If you have the space, keep books stored neatly on a bookshelf or hanging shelf. We also decorate with a lot of baskets to keep toys neatly stored. This just helps keep the room clutter free and creates a space that parents enjoy being in.
We couldn’t agree with you more than investing in a cozy glider – it's a great idea as you really do spend so much time using it. We also recommend investing in a good quality crib mattress.
In your opinion, on the design side of things where should you splurge and where should you save? [lighting, rug, mirror, art, etc.]
As we said up above, splurge on a cozy glider! It’s our number one used item in both of our nurseries.
Lastly, if you’re choosing to decorate with wallpaper choose a good quality paper. At Anewall, our products are PVC-free, eco-friendly, recycled and inks are latex-free. These things are so important for the air your baby is breathing day in and day out, so make sure you’re choosing a good quality product.
We choose to save on smaller décor pieces like table lamps, art prints, and mirrors. Anything that you may want to switch out down the road!
We suggest a timeline for packing your hospital bag, getting your car seat, your glider, and crib — but when should you start thinking about ordering a wallpaper for a feature wall in your nursery?
We would suggest ordering a wallpaper 2-3 months before baby is due to arrive. At Anewall, we aim to have your wallpaper in your hands 3 weeks after ordering. This will give you lots of time have it installed or “do it yourself” before baby comes! We suggest moving furniture into the room after installing if possible. A crib in the room is still fine, it’s easy enough to move around as the install is happening.
