Tips For Buying A Stroller

A Snuggle Bugz mama of 2 offers up her advice when it comes to shopping for a new stroller. Whether you're expecting your first or are upgrading to a double (or triple!) stroller, here are a few things to keep in mind.

Be Realistic

You have to be honest about how you will be using your stroller on day to day basis. When I was pregnant with my first, I had this romantic idea that I would become an overnight jogger. Therefore, needing a three wheel stroller.

However, this was so far from the truth since I can count the number of times I have gone for a jog on one hand. When I am honest with myself I realize that I am more of an ‘in and out of my car’ kinda girl with an occasional walk – so a three wheeled, all-terrain stroller was not necessarily the the right choice for me. I needed something that was easy to get in and out of the trunk and maneuvered tight aisles at the mall well!

Think Beyond Baby

If you and significant other have major height differences you will need a stroller with an extendable handle bar. Or if you have a pooch in your life, a stroller with a single handle bar is the way to go so you can take both babe & dog for a stroll without worrying about tipping right off the curb!

The single handle bar is also great for you coffee drinking mamas (who doesn’t need their java after becoming a mom??) and those prone to the occasional "Instagram browse" while baby finishes their nap on a walk!

Look At the Wheels

People say “eyes are the window to your soul” well, when it comes to strollers their wheels say it all! If you plan to jog with baby you need a three-wheel stroller, if you live in the country or walk on gravel roads you need a stroller with sturdier, all-terrain tires. The bigger the wheels, the more ‘gutsy’ a stroller. Steer clear of plastic wheels as they will wear down quickly and do not absorb any shock. You want to look for air filled or foam filled tires and all-wheel suspension.

Grow With You

Strollers have come a long way. They are built well, last long and now have the ability to grow with your family. If you are planning to have more than one baby you may want to consider a single stroller that can convert to a double down the line. This can save you money and prevent a garage full of strollers if and when more babies come along.

Trust Your Instincts

When you are expecting everyone feels as though they have the right to tell you what will work best for you and your life (because it worked for theirs). That is just not true! You know best - for example, my boys both benefitted from the bassinet, they loved to stretch out and slept well in it - this was my must-have in a stroller but it may not be yours. Since not all strollers on the market come with every feature- think big picture and what YOUR must-haves are.

Sticker Shock

Strollers are expensive. But, in my opinion the right stroller is money well spent. You will use this daily - steering, lifting, pushing & folding - do your research! I promise that if you love your stroller you will never think it’s a waste of money!

Try It Out!

Lastly - and most importantly - enjoy finding the stroller that is right for your family!! It is such an exciting time in your life, so feel free to go into your local Snuggle Bugz and push them around the block, fold and unfold them, and even load them into your trunk (yep, they'll let you)! We also have an entire Learning Centre section where you can explore ALL of our stroller reviews and comparisons!

Once you've decided on your perfect stroller and get it home, we won't judge if we see you pushing a bag of milk around the block ;)
