If you're a parent on the hunt for a top-end stroller, the Bugaboo Fox series may be just what you’re looking for.

With their sleek design, impressive maneuverability, and thoughtful features, the Fox strollers have been a favourite among parents (and us here at Snuggle Bugz) for years!

With the recent release of the Fox 5 Complete Stroller, it's time to compare this newest addition to the Bugaboo fam with its predecessor, the Fox 3.

At first glance, the Fox 3 and Fox 5 strollers share many similarities, including the recognizable Bugaboo aesthetic and overall construction. However, there are some key differences worth exploring.

We’ll break everything down for you in this comparison article — and by the end, you'll have a better idea of how these strollers differ.

The Specs

Fox 3:
  • Suitable from birth (with pram) to children up to 50 lbs (toddler seat).
  • Open Dimensions: 33 - 42" L x 24" W x 35 - 43" H
  • One-Piece Folded Dimensions: 18.5" L x 23.6" W x 36.4" H
  • Two-Piece Folded Dimensions: 33.8" L x 20.4" W x 13.4" H
  • Stroller Weight: 21.8 lbs.
  • Front Wheel Size: 8.5"
  • Rear Wheel Size: 12"

Fox 5:
  • Suitable from birth (with pram) to children up to 50 lbs (toddler seat).
  • Open Dimensions: 36.6" L x 23.6" W x 41.3" H
  • One-Piece Folded Dimensions: 17.3" L x 23.6" W x 35.4" H
  • Two- Piece Folded Dimensions: 35" L x 20.9" W x 13.4" H
  • Stroller Weight: 22.9 lbs.
  • Front Wheel Size: 8.5"
  • Rear Wheel Size: 12”

As you can see from a quick look at their specs, these two strollers are very close in size and weight restriction. However, the Fox 5 has the advantage when it is folded. Its new folding design ensures it takes up a little less space, partly due to the under-seat basket folding down nice and small.

Almost Twinsies

If you feel like you’re seeing double, you’re not that far off! The Fox 3 and Fox 5 share a lot of the same features:

3-IN-1 STROLLER:
The Fox strollers come with a pram for baby’s early months and a toddler seat for when they get a bit bigger. They can also be turned into a travel system by attaching an infant car seat to the stroller frame. These strollers are compatible with Bugaboo’s infant car seats but will require an adapter if you’re using a seat from Cybex, Peg Perego (Fox 3 only), Nuna, Maxi-Cosi, or Clek.

SLEEK STYLE:
The aesthetic design of these strollers really hasn’t changed too much (why change perfection, right!?!) They both use high-quality, durable, muted-tone fabrics to suit any family’s lifestyle. The brushed aluminum frame is strong and sturdy, and the leather-wrapped bumper bar and handlebar lend a touch of elegance.

ROCKIN’ WHEELS:
The wheels are virtually identical, with two 8.5” swivel wheels in the front and two 12” wheels in the back — fantastic for navigating the stroller on rough terrain! The front wheels can also be locked for additional stability when used on rocky terrain or pushing the stroller at top speeds.

PROTECTION:
Each stroller has a HUGE 50+ UPF extendable canopy for sun protection (also great to protect against the wind), a bumper bar to keep baby from injury, and a rain cover to keep them dry. A 5-point padded harness is easy to buckle (or unbuckle) and keeps your little one snug and safe in the toddler seat.

COMPACT CRUISER:
The Fox 3 and Fox 5 compact down to a one, or two-piece folded configuration with ease. In this state, you can store them out of sight or load them into your vehicle for a day out with minimal fuss.

AERATED MATTRESS:
The included pram has a breezy panel that can be folded up for more airflow and a 3D aerated mesh mattress for ventilation, helping regulate baby’s body temperature — these are nice features to keep baby cool when strolling on hot summer days.

TODDLER SEAT:
Few things are worse than a toddler meltdown. Thankfully, the Fox strollers have everything needed to keep baby bawling at bay. A padded and ergonomically designed toddler seat supports your child’s development, reclining in various positions for ultimate comfort and naps on-the-go.

EASY CLEANING:
No hand scrubbing here! The fabrics are not just soft and durable, but water-repellant too and can be tossed in the washing machine for quick cleaning. Music to our ears!

BUGABOO COMPATIBLE:
Both strollers are compatible with a wide range of Bugaboo accessories, including their snack tray, smartphone holder, cup holder, and parasol! For a full list of Fox 5 accessories, click here.

It's the Little Things

Now that you know what they have in common, here’s a list of features Bugaboo improves on with the Fox 5:

CENTRAL JOINT:
The chassis design has been refined. Bugaboo moved the central joint closer to the rear of the stroller, which makes for a smoother ride, lighter steering, and gives more space for parents when operating the stroller.

NEW BRIDGE:
The Fox 5 has a new front bridge design. This creates an automatic self-standing position, so you’re not wrestling to get it upright when unfolding it. It also means the stroller takes up less storage space when not in use.

BYE BYE BUTTONS:
The Fox 3 has multiple white buttons designed into its frame, which put some people off. To create a more premium look and a seamless design, Bugaboo removed these buttons from the Fox 5.

ADJUSTMENTS:
When we said we wanted more features to accommodate growing children, Bugaboo heard us loud and clear! The canopy on the Fox 5 can now slide up an extra 5 centimetres to give you greater length in the seat, and the footrest on the toddler seat is also extendable. These are nice features to help keep your child comfortable as they grow and extend the length of time you can use your stroller.

NEW COLOUR:
Along with the launch of the Fox 5, Bugaboo released a new timeless and trendy canopy colour called “Astro Purple”. Please note, this colour canopy is sold separately.

ONE-HANDED EVERYTHING:
The Fox 5 leans heavily into doing everything one-handed — after all, your other hand is busy with baby! The Fox 5 has a one-handed seat recline, as well as a new one-handed fold and handlebar adjustment (previously had to be done with two hands). The new footrest and canopy length adjustments can also be done with one hand too!

ATTACHMENT POINTS:
Bugaboo offers a Comfort Wheeled Board that can attach to the Fox strollers for towing along an older child while your young one is in the pram or seat. The Fox 5 moves the attachment point in by 2.5 cm to give parents a bit more walking room.

HIGHER UP:
Okay, so we are not talking mile high here, but the Fox 5 places the seating position 1 centimetre higher on the stroller frame, so babies are closer to mom and dad’s smiling faces, and within arm’s reach for soothing or handing them their loveys.

SMART STORAGE:
While both strollers have large easy-access baskets for storing up to 22 lbs. of essentials, the under-seat basket on the Fox 5 has had an overhaul. The basket now features a pocket to hide your valuables (or rain cover), and the basket also compacts smaller when the stroller is folded.

Stroller Superiority

The bottom line is that these are both amazing strollers for every day — rain or shine! While, the upgrades aren't groundbreaking on the Fox 5 Complete Strolleryou do get some extras that are nice to have — especially the one-handed fold and handlebar adjustment, length adjustable canopy, and adjustable footrest.
