A quick glance shows us that the Revolution Flex 3.0 is a slightly smaller stroller and roughly four pounds lighter than the Alterrain Pro.
Of note: While these are jogging strollers, they should only be used as such once your child reaches the age of 8 months. Both strollers can be used from birth with an infant car seat and/or from 2 months with the included seat. However, during baby’s first 8 months, these are walking strollers only.
Similar Specs
The Alterrain Pro and the Revolution Flex 3.0 share similar features — after all, they’re made by the same brand!
To begin, these joggers are durable. Designed with robust yet lightweight aluminum frames, you’ll get years of use from them even after putting them through the toughest terrains.
Their trademark three-wheel design features a single 12” front tire paired with two 16” rear tires, delivering a smooth and steady ride for your growing child. Pro tip: These air-filled tires will likely require a top-up from time to time, so it’s best to keep a pump handy.
Navigating various terrains is a breeze thanks to the 360° front swivel wheel that can be easily locked when jogging at higher speeds, providing enhanced stability and control. Both strollers have one-handed seat reclining, allowing you to easily adjust the seat to a near-flat position for your child's comfort.
For sunny days, both the Alterrain Pro and the Revolution Flex 3.0 come equipped with UPF 50+ canopies, shielding your little one from harmful UV rays during outdoor adventures. The canopies also have mesh peekaboo windows that promote airflow while keeping an eye on your passenger.
The inclusion of a wrist strap and a stylish grip on the handlebar ensures stability and comfort while jogging. The convenience of a flip-flop-friendly foot brake adds to the user-friendly design, allowing you to secure the stroller effortlessly when needed.
Storage is a strong suit for both models, boasting extra-large under-seat baskets (with the Alterrain Pro featuring a zip-top design) and numerous pockets strategically placed around the stroller for added convenience. The colour options allow you to choose a stroller that suits your style, with two choices available for each model.
In terms of versatility, the Alterrain Pro and Revolution Flex 3.0 are travel system-ready, compatible with a range of infant car seats from BOB, Britax, UPPAbaby, Chicco, Graco, Peg Perego, Cybex, Maxi-Cosi, and Nuna (adapters sold separately).
But BOB doesn't stop there — offering a variety of add-ons including a Deluxe Handlebar Console With Pump (or Without Pump), an All-Weather Shield, a Sun Shield, and a Stroller Travel Bag, allowing you to customize your jogging stroller to fit your specific needs.
Different Joggers
Though they have some similar features (and even look very similar) the Alterrain Pro and Revolution Flex 3.0 diverge in some major ways:
- Folding: The Alterrain Pro boasts a user-friendly one-handed quick folding mechanism, with the fabric folding outward. This design provides a convenient solution for busy parents, allowing for swift and effortless folding while on the go. On the other hand (no pun intended!), the Revolution Flex 3.0 requires the use of both hands to fold, with the fabric folding inward. This two-handed folding approach may appeal to those who prioritize a more compact fold, even though it involves a slightly more involved process.
- Suspension Systems: The Alterrain Pro stands out with its SmoothShox feature, offering a specialized and adjustable suspension system for a remarkably smooth ride. This technology is designed to absorb shocks and bumps, ensuring both the parent and child experience enhanced comfort on all terrains. In comparison, the Revolution Flex 3.0 features a very good adjustable suspension system, emphasizing adaptability to different terrains. While it lacks the specific SmoothShox technology, it still provides reliable suspension for a comfortable ride.
- Adjustable Handlebars: Both strollers feature 9-position handlebars for customizable comfort during use. However, the Alterrain Pro's handlebar has a lower range, spanning from 31 to 48 inches. This lower starting position may be advantageous for parents of varying heights, whereas the Revolution Flex 3.0's handlebar ranges from 34.5 to 48 inches.
- Canopy Size: The Alterrain Pro incorporates an extended canopy for enhanced coverage, offering extra protection from the sun's rays and the elements. This feature is beneficial for providing ample shade during outdoor activities. In contrast, the Revolution Flex 3.0, while equipped with a UPF 50+ canopy, does not offer the same extended coverage.
- Hand Brake: A notable difference is the presence of a hand brake on the Alterrain Pro, providing additional control during downhill maneuvers. This feature can be particularly useful for parents who frequently navigate hilly or uneven terrain. In contrast, the Revolution Flex 3.0 does not include a hand brake, which may be a consideration for those who prioritize this added safety feature.
- Reflectivity: The Alterrain Pro is designed with reflective rims and trim, enhancing visibility in low-light conditions. Conversely, the Revolution Flex 3.0 features reflective trim but does not include the additional reflective rims found on the Alterrain Pro.
- Fabrics: The Alterrain Pro utilizes all-weather, waterproof fabrics, creating a complete barrier to moisture. This ensures the stroller remains resilient in various outdoor conditions, offering durability and protection. In contrast, the Revolution Flex 3.0 employs water-resistant fabrics, providing a level of protection against moisture without the full waterproof capability of the Alterrain Pro.
- Price: The Alterrain Pro is quite a bit more expensive as it comes with additional features and design elements that contribute to the overall cost and value of this model. The Revolution Flex 3.0 is a more budget-friendly option for parents who want to remain active, but not break the bank doing so.
Final Thoughts
BOB’s robust and unique stroller design is what sets them apart. But when you’re pitting their Alterrain Pro Stroller against their Revolution Flex 3.0 Jogging Stroller, can one really come out on top?
The answer, is maybe. It really boils down to your personal preference!
For $200 more, the Alterrain Pro comes with one-handed folding, waterproof fabrics, a hand brake, reflective rims for nighttime use, and better shock absorption for a smoother ride. If any of those are deal breakers, you already know which stroller to go with.
However, the Revolution Flex 3.0 is easily one of the better jogging strollers currently on the market and will provide you with a feature-heavy baby ride that comes at a lower price.
