After 25 years [yes, the first Pump in Style launched back in 1996!], the Medela Pump in Style has been completely re-designed!

Introducing the Pump in Style with maxFlow Technology, boasting an advanced motor with simple intuitive controls. We aren't just talking a few tweaks, but a whole new look, feel, and functionality with updates made based off the most recent clinical studies.

We've gone into detail on the full Medela breast pump line-up here, but today, we're sharing three things we love about this 1.18 lb. double electric breast pump

It’s Easy to Use

The Pump in Style has fewer parts, fewer buttons, it’s easy to assemble, and easy to clean.

Featuring x4 simple buttons for intuitive use, and x10 pre-programmed settings:

  1. Power [on/off]
  2. Vacuum increase [+]
  3. Vacuum decrease [-]
  4. Milk let down button
There is no light-up display or ability to connect via Bluetooth – it’s plain and simple.

All the pump parts come connected and ready to use which means no forgotten parts and fewer components to set-up. Simply insert the yellow membrane, snap closed, attach a bottle to catch that liquid gold and you are all set to go.

Choose Your Power

YOU'VE GOT OPTIONS:

  • The included power adaptor
  • Portable battery pack for those on-the-go scenarios when required
    • x8 AA batteries
The Pump in Style needs to be connected to a power source in order to function which makes it a great pump for any mom who plans to pump from a stationary position. The pump motor itself can be removed from the microfibre bag and can be used with the buttons on top or on the side. Go ahead and pop it into your lap if that works for you —the choice is yours.

We will say, if you were planning on double pumping using your easy expression bustier while walking on your treadmill or having an at-home dance party, then this may not be the right choice for you. However, if you plan to cozy up in bed or on the couch with a good book while you relax, and are pumping close to an outlet then this could be your pump!

Maxflow Technology

If you’ve done some preliminary research on breast pumps and hear the word technology, then the Sonata Smart Breast Pump or the Freestyle Flex with light up display and Bluetooth technology may come to mind.

In this case, that’s not the kind of technology we are referring to. The Pump in Style may not have a light-up display, but it does have the newest Medela maxFlow technology found inside of that tiny little 1.18 lb motor.

What is maxFlow?

Inside of the pump motor there is a vacuum mechanism that uses Medela’s 2-phase expression technology paired with maxFlow technology. The result is a gentle micro-vibration that better stimulates the breast alveoli. You can certainly HEAR and FEEL those vibrations when the pump is applied at the breast. The vacuum levels are like the Medela Hospital Grade Symphony Pump proving that small can still be mighty. The pump moves from stimulation phase to expression phase after just 1 minute – that update is based off new clinical research that proves many moms can have an efficient pumping session in that time frame.

What Else Do We Love?

The new oval shaped PersonalFit Flex breast shields naturally fit the curves of the breast making every pumping session feel comfortable. These shields also allow you to yield 11.8% more milk than a standard breast shield from previous years.

More milk. Less time. YES!

What Do You Think?

So, what are your thoughts on the Pump in Style?

Will it do the trick with its simplicity, or are you leaning towards the tech packed Freestyle Flex? If you're still in the research phase, we've got you covered with our Related Content below packed with all the Medela product reviews you didn't know you needed!
